Mestre Negoativo is a renowned capoeira Mestre, musician, cultural activist, artisan, and researcher dedicated to preserving and promoting Afro-Brazilian traditions, particularly the Bantu cultural heritage of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is the founder of the Centro Cultural Lamparina and is widely respected for his extensive research into the history, music, and cultural expressions of Afro-Mineiro communities.
An accomplished berimbau player and educator, Mestre Negoativo has spent decades studying traditional musical bows, including the berimbau de barriga, and documenting the evolution of African-derived musical traditions in Brazil. His work bridges scholarship and practice, connecting contemporary capoeira communities with their ancestral roots.
Mestre Negoativo is also the author of the book Capoeiragem no País das Gerais and director of the documentary Lamparina – Bantus nas Minas Gerais, both of which explore the rich history and cultural contributions of Afro-Brazilian communities in Minas Gerais. Through his teaching, performances, publications, and cultural projects, he continues to inspire capoeiristas and researchers around the world with his deep commitment to history, music, and tradition.
